The chaps over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun(one of the biggest PC gaming only sites) has a detailed view on the Project CARS's(?!) Galileo engine, that makes the game look so damn good. For the people living under a rock, Project CARS is the racing game that will end all racing games. Also actually I think the head image must be considered NSFW.

If only the driving physics wouldn't be crap and a real sim...

This.
Now Assetto Corsa? That may end all racing games.

Assetto Corsa or rFactor 2 is the future of Sim Racing. GTR3 is too far away and currently only there to promote RaceRoom.

Do you know something I don't. From what I've seen till now, it looks very sim like. Not iRacing, but at least on par with GT/Forza if not better.

That's a good step from it's roots as NFS Shift, but GT/Fourza are not sim's.

You know poeple like me(and a lot of the gaming ppl) don't like hardcore simulation ala iRacing. I tried it, it is just strange to me. I can't really explain it, but the hardcore simulation of any genre, just frustrates me and makes me want to break things. And because I suck, it is just not really fun. And games for me must be first fun and then anything other. I like my games on the border of being realisting but still easy to play and fun enough like the first GRiDor Shift or the old Codies games like TOCA Race Driver or even Richard Burn Rally, which all hail as the best rally game, but it is still pretty fun and accessible.

Hmm... a crowd-funded, second-party studio coded the movement of the entire (visible) cosmos and atmosphere into their racing game, which features detailed interior geometry and weather effects and is releasing (hopefully) on current-gen hardware.
T10 have spent 8 years dicking around with their physics and awkwardly shoving gross lighting effects in their games and only now, with the power of the cloud, are including open-wheel cars.
Shit.

If you want a hardcore sim that is accessible: rFactor. At least it worked for me. And I am not one of the G27 Rig racers.
I have heard from people who played rFactor, GTR2, Assetto Corsa (Well, the TechDemo), rFactor2 and pCARS that it is exactly as you said: More sim than Shift2, but by far not as sophisticated as AC.

The ToCA Race Driver series were good set of games.
